Course Description:

This course considers the impact that individuals, groups, and structure have on behavior within organizations. We will be focusing on practical examples and methods related to problem-solving within organizations.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, which includes lectures, readings and a research project, the student will be able to:
  1. demonstrate an understanding of the behavioural aspects within organizations;
  2. use the skills necessary to recognize, analyze, and solve behavioral problems at both the individual and group level;
  3. demonstrate an understanding of the importance and impact of various forms of corporate culture;
  4. discuss and explain how ethnic and cultural diversity influence organizational behaviour on the international level;
  5. analyze the nature of change and how it affects organizations.

Grading:
Midterm examination 20%
Final examination 50%
Presentations 30%

Presentations: There will be three individual, formal class presentations in this course. These presentations require that the student chose a current issues topic related to one of the chapters we are covering in class. The student will research the topic using Internet and library resources and prepare a presentation using Powerpoint, video or other appropriate delivery tools. The presentation should present a problem and propose a solution. Each presentation is worth 10% of the final grade.

Attendance: Attendance is expected at all classes.
